Side note, the headset is a cheap one I got new from a friend, Afterglow lvl3, they are pretty bad audio quality wise, but I tried this with multiple other headsets with the same results. If I use a set of headphones to get audio, and not the headset, then everything is fine, except that I am wearing headphones for sound, and the headset around my neck for voice. Also, if I unplug the audio jack, but leave the mic jack in, it also stops transmitting audio, but if I plug the audio jack into any other audio jack (front or back panel, and the USB device) it will start sending all sound through the mic again. The really bizarre thing is that if I switch the default audio device (not recording device) to be my speakers, then the system sound stops going through the mic, and it works fine, other then the fact that I can't hear through my headset, and the mic picks the speakers up. Discord picks it up, audacity picks it up, Skype, Hangouts.
Even if I mute my headset with its mute switch, I can still see that my system sound is being transmitted. I even tried a USB sound device that gives a mic and audio jack, but it does the same thing, all system audio is passed through to the microphone. My friends complain that they can hear my game and their echo.

I have messed with all sorts of settings in the windows sound/recording options, control panel, Realtek audio manager, and tried updating drivers, but I have not been able to fix it. It is not as if the mic is picking up the sound, but windows is actually outputting sound through the recording device as if it was a stereo mix. (Previously I just used my phone to transmit my voice with the headset.) But when I started using my headset with my desktop, all system sound is channeled not only to my headset, but also through the microphone. It is a mixed audio/mic jack so I was unable to use it with my desktop until I got a 4-pole extender and a splitter that split the audio and mic into two different jacks. I have a headset that I like to use when I play games with friends. I have a very strange problem that hours of google searching and troubleshooting have not fixed.
